Covid-19 And DRES Update

The DRES President and Committee would like to provide all our members witht following update during this current Covid–19 crisis.

Not surprisingly under the circumstances, the DRES Committee have decided to cancel all visits, physical lecture gatherings and social events until it is safe and permitted to do so.

DRES has taken out a corporate ‘Zoom’ subscription so all Committee meetings will still take place as scheduled from now on but remotely.

To provide an opportunity to get members together (albeit in a virtual capacity) and have a bit of fun, we will hold a quiz night for you on 27th May 2020 by ‘Zoom’. Please see other posts about the event on our website and joining instructions will be emailed to members. The quiz host will be Mark Zawisza.

The Peter Parkin Memorial short papers evening for Younger Members will go ahead on 18th June 2020 as a virtual event. The papers will be in the form of videos and will be available from 11th June 2020 for you to view on this website. Please submit questions prior to the live event.

We have established a Younger Members Sub-Committee and it has been meeting regularly during the lockdown. This Sub-Committee has taken over organisation of the Peter Parkin event.

We intend to start the 2020/21 lecture season on schedule. However, we will plan for virtual meetings initially or meetings which are both at the Derby Conference Centre and beamed live via Zoom dependent upon Government advice and the views of the DRES Committee.

We have all missed the lectures and visits during the lockdown and we are very much looking forward to meeting all of you again face to face at our events just as soon as it is safe to do so.

If you have any feedback or suggestions for other ‘virtual’ events for the Committee to consider then please do not hesitate to get in touch with us via email: membership@dres.org.uk
