Video Lecture: The Success Of Borders Rail!

The 30 miles of new line forming the Borders Railway opened in 2016 reconnecting Midlothian and the Scottish Borders with the capital for the first time in 46 years. It includes seven new stations and is the longest domestic railway to open in Britain for over 100 years and literally distinctive as a “once in a century railway.” The lecture will explain how after decades of campaigning the new railway became a reality and discuss challenges in design, procurement, construction and operation. It will illustrate how the route has made such a large economic impact for the region and consider “what next”.
