SUMMARY:Visit To Severn Valley Railway
DESCRIPTION:The rescheduled visit the Severn Valley Railway at Kidderminster will now take place on the 9th Sept 2026. All previously purchased tickets will be honoured. The visit will include a tour of the Carriage and Wagon works as well as the Traction Maintenance Depot with a look at the Vanguard Sustainable Transport Solutions – HydroShunter along the way. The Carriage and Wagon works has some fantastic old test equipment in it which is particularly interesting\, as well as a machine shop\, wood shop and paint shop. It is also where the steam locomotives are maintained. The Traction Maintenance Depot is where the likes of the Western Locomotive Association\, Diesel Traction Group\, the Class 08 group as well as Vanguard Sustainable Transport Solutions are based to work on mainly diesel locos. \nThe visit will take place on Wednesday 9th Sept. commencing at 09:15 hrs with an expected duration of four hours. A full itinerary will be provided closer to the visit date. \nAttendees travelling by road should meet in the SVR car park. If you head for DY10 1QX you’ll see the entrance to both the SVR and the mainline station for Kidderminster. When you turn off Comberton Road onto Station Approach\, you’ll need to take an immediate right through an entrance signposted for the Severn Valley Railway. Follow the road and you’ll arrive at a car park – you can park anywhere you like. It’s pay and display – approximately £4 for the day per vehicle. \nPlease note the following additional arrangements apply to this visit: \n\nVisitors should be able-bodied – there is a reasonable walk from the car park to the shed where HydroShunter is stored and it involves crossing railways and loose gravel/mud underfoot.\nClothing and PPE\, sensible footwear with good soles is recommended. They don’t have to be steel-toe-cap boots\, but something grippy that people won’t mind getting dirty (no open toes!). High vis isn’t a requirement\, but if you have it and feel safer wearing it\, that’s fine too.\n\nThe SVR rely almost entirely on donations to stay operational and there will therefore be a £10 charge for this visit with all proceeds donated to the SVR.
