Past Video Lecture: Where Would The Railways Have Been Without The Timber Industry?

The railways have used substantial tonnages of timber from the outset.  Philip Riden from Nottingham University reviewed the use of timber in rolling stock, buildings, other structures and of course the permanent way, where perhaps the largest amount of timber was and is still used. To view a video of the lecture, please log into the Members Area and head to the Video Lecture page. Philip also assessed the quantity of timber used and examine how the railways extended the life of their timber. This lecture took place on the 9th December 2020 via Zoom.
