In his talk, Bob Tiller (GBRf – Engineering Strategy Director) outlined the business position within GB Railfreight Ltd in 2018 which resulted in the requirement for more freight locomotives.

Bob presented the rationale for Repowering Class 56 locomotives with modern power units, the choice of a contractor, the conversion programme and the challenges along the way. The first examples have now been completed and are in service. This event was jointly sponsored by the IET and DRES.
